Start Where You Begin.
PARTICIPANT INTRODUCTION
Every Human’s Journey™ isn’t something you just show up to. You step into it.
This page is the real beginning. Whether you’re preparing to join your first EHJ group or moving through the process on your own, this is where orientation becomes embodiment.
Here you’ll find a grounded introduction to how EHJ starts—through reflection, intention, and a willingness to show up honestly. We draw from the Week 0 section of the workbook, but this isn’t a summary. It’s a participant’s invitation into the mindset, frameworks, and early rhythm of the journey.
The first threshold in Every Human’s Journey
What It Means to Begin

Orientation, not explanation
If the rest of the website tells you what EHJ is, this page helps you feel what it means to begin. You’ll get a glimpse of what “Week 0” looks like, yes—but also some of the real tools and ideas participants carry with them from the very start.
You’ll learn about core concepts like holons, archetypes, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) language—not as theory, but as tools for making sense of your own inner life. And you’ll begin to see how EHJ moves: weekly, reflectively, and in your own hands.
“Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, it invites every human to embark on a personal journey inward.”

Dr. Schweitzer, Sierra Counseling & Coaching
Core Frameworks in Practice
“There is no arrival—only participation.”
These concepts will surface throughout your journey—not as intellectual ideas, but as ways to see yourself and the world more clearly.

Holons
EHJ sees the self as a holon—a whole being, but also part of something bigger. You’re not defined by your past, your systems, or your community—but you’re not separate from them either.
Holons let us reflect with more depth. You can be a parent, a friend, an addict, a student—and still be more than any of those things. You’re allowed to hold tension. You’re allowed to change.
Archetypes
EHJ introduces common archetypes that appear in stories, myths, and our own inner lives—Orphan, Hero, Caregiver, Sage, Trickster, and more. These aren’t roles to play or labels to assign. They’re ways of naming what’s showing up in you, without collapsing into shame or abstraction.
You’ll use these lightly throughout the process—not to define yourself, but to reflect honestly.
IFS Language
While EHJ isn’t built around IFS (Internal Family Systems), it draws from the way IFS names our internal complexity.
You may notice different parts of you reacting to the work: a guarded part, a skeptical part, a hopeful part, a shutdown part. That’s normal. We sometimes refer to these using “parts language” because it helps make inner reactions clearer.
We’re not diagnosing anything. Just paying attention.
The Hero’s Journey
EHJ follows the classic structure of the Hero’s Journey. But this isn’t about casting yourself as a hero—it’s about seeing the deep, repeating patterns of change that exist in all human stories.
There’s a Call. Resistance. Descent. Discovery. Return. This shows up in myth—but also in recovery, faith, change, loss, growth, and transformation.
You’re already in it. EHJ just helps you name it.
Week 0 – Self-Preparation
Before the first official week, EHJ offers a flexible self-guided starting point: Week 0. It’s not required, but it helps.
This is a space to begin reflecting—not performing. You’ll get a feel for the kind of personal work EHJ invites: practices like journaling, reflection, archetype exploration, and naming your inner starting point.

What Week 0 looks like
💡 Self-Assigned Homework
EHJ includes self-assigned homework each week. You choose your level of depth. Week 0 gives you four suggested options to help you begin:
There’s no requirement to do them all. You choose what feels honest.
It’s not self-help in the way we’ve come to expect it. It’s an invitation to look inward, to step into your own story, and to rediscover the courage it takes to face yourself honestly.”
What Happens Next?
From here, you can explore each part of the model in more depth:
As a part of this pilot group, participants are asked to take an anonymous assessment and provide a review.
